Lateral Extension—Iyengar Yoga

Side Trunk and Back Body Elongation

This quiet sequence is performed at a slow pace, using minimal props.

Lateral extension helps to ground the legs and create space while moving sideways. It elongates and lengthens the trunk, sides, back, and frontal body. These postures stimulate the kidneys and open the heart region. Additionally, in these seated postures, we will incorporate a few parvritta (twisting actions) to stimulate and bring awareness to our posterior body.
